Texas Rangers vs LA Dodgers Starting Pitchers

The ERA for both pitchers is pretty even. But as you can see, Paxton’s strikeout rate has fallen off a cliff so far this year. He posted a 24.6% strikeout rate just last year, but he hasn’t been able to get his swing-and-miss stuff working so far in 2024. Because the Dodgers have such a great offense, though, his struggles haven’t been reflected in his overall record.

Dunning, meanwhile, continues to be a perfectly serviceable back-of-the-rotation starter. He won’t wow you, but he’ll go out, put in his 5 innings of work and turn things over to the bullpen. He also has a pretty solid strikeout rate.

Both of these pitchers should allow some runs tonight. But whichever guy can avoid giving up a huge inning should position his team to win in the later innings. Both guys have been up and down recently, though. Dunning gave up 3 earned runs and 2 home runs in his last start, while Paxton gave up 6 earned runs and 7 total runs. But in their starts before that, each allowed 0 runs.
