Can I Bet on the Super Bowl?
If sports betting is legal and regulated in the state you’re located in, yes, you can bet on the Super Bowl!
Betting on the Super Bowl is more than just picking a winner. It helps to know what bets you can make, how to read the odds, and how to make a wager at an online sportsbook once you’re ready to do so.
Factor in the various types of Super Bowl props you can bet, and things can get pretty confusing very quickly!
But before you ask yourself, “What are Prop Bets?“, let’s focus on how to bet on the Super Bowl and the three primary ways to do so.
Ways to Bet on the Super Bowl
When trying to p out how to bet on the Super Bowl online, you’ll be met with betting lines that look something like this:
The moneyline, spread, and total are the most common bets you can make on an NFL game. But these aren’t just for a regular NFL game: those are the betting lines for Super Bowl 58!
But which one lets you pick a winner? How do you go “against the spread”? And is the total for just one team or both? Let’s break it all down!
What Is the Moneyline?
On the surface, a moneyline bet asks one of the most straightforward questions a bettor can face: who do you think is going to win?
Things only get complicated when you’re trying to read the odds. For example, the 49ers are currently -125 to win and the Chiefs are +105. That’s great and all, but what do those numbers actually mean?
For American odds, a number appearing as a positive represents the underdog for a moneyline bet, while a negative number are odds for the favorite. Seems ironic that the favorite would get a negative, but there’s a reason for it.
Those positive and negative numbers help determine how much money you win based on a hypothetical $100. The positive odds represent the amount of money you win from a $100 bet, while the negative odds show how much you need to bet to win $100.
Let’s use the Super Bowl 58 odds as an example. The Chiefs are an underdog, getting +105 odds to win the Super Bowl. This means a winning wager of $100 would earn you $105. In the image below, the winning payout is shown as a total of $205, $100 for the original stake and $105 in winnings.
But if you bet on the 49ers to win, the -125 means you need to bet $125 to win $100, for a total payout of $225.
Why only $100 from a bet of $125? That’s the nature of betting on a favorite: you need to risk more on a favorite in order to win more money.
To make a moneyline bet, click on the odds in the MONEYLINE column of the TEAM you want to bet on. When the bet appears on your Bet Slip, enter the amount you want to wager and click Place Bet.
What Is the Super Bowl Spread?
Sometimes the odds for a moneyline favorite are so overwhelmingly short, that picking a winner isn’t worth the bet. You end up betting too much to win too little.
So what then? That’s where spread betting comes in.
Spread betting is a way for bookmakers to even out a matchup, in case a favorite is significantly better than an underdog. In this case, a team has to win or lose by a specific amount (the “spread”) for the bet to pay out.
For Super Bowl 58, the 49ers are favored by 2 points, appearing as -2 on the betting line. For their spread bet to win, San Francisco needs to beat the Chiefs by more than two points. Conversely, Kansas City needs to lose by less than two points (or win the game) to have their Spread bet pay out.
However, if San Francisco wins by exactly two points, the spread bet is a push: the bet doesn’t win, but it doesn’t lose either. When that happens, you’ll be refunded your original bet.
Because the spread is meant to find a middle-ground between two teams, the available odds will typically be very close to one another, making the spread a true “either/or” kind of bet. You can see those odds above where 49ers -2 is priced at -105, and Chiefs +2 is -115.
To make a spread bet, click on the odds in the SPREAD column of the TEAM you want to bet on. When the bet appears on your Bet Slip, enter the amount you want to wager and click Place Bet.

What Is the Super Bowl Over/Under?
Finally, there’s the over/under or total points bet. There’s no winner or loser to pick when it comes to NFL Over/Under bets, or guessing whether a team can win by certain margin. The only thing to decide is if the combined scores of the two teams will either go over or under the total point line.
In this case, the over/under for Super Bowl 58 is set at 47.5. You either take the over and hope the score adds up 48 or go with the under and pray it stays at 47 or lower.
Like spread betting, the over/under is another “either/or” bet, making for odds that are close when they’re not identical. In this case both the over and under have odds of -110.
To make an over/under bet, click on the odds in the TOTAL column of the TEAM you want to bet on. When the bet appears on your Bet Slip, enter the amount you want to wager and click Place Bet.
